LEGO sets retiring at the end of 2026: what to buy before Christmas
Checked October 18, 2026, using Brick Fanatics' retirement list as updated October 13, 2026 (Brick Fanatics). Prices are LEGO's U.S. list prices from that list.
Every LEGO set eventually "retires": LEGO stops making it, stores sell what's left, and then it's gone. Hundreds of sets are expected to retire on December 31, 2026, right after the holidays. If one is on a wish list, the easiest money you'll save is buying it now, at the normal price.
What "retiring" means for you
- Before: the set is in stores at its normal price. This is the best time to buy.
- Near the end: stock gets thin and popular sets flicker in and out of stock, often in December.
- After: only resellers have it, usually for more than the original price.
One honest caveat: Brick Fanatics says retirement dates change often, with no pattern, and sometimes change back (Brick Fanatics). Treat a date as "probably," not a promise.

Smart-shopper tips
- The list price is your anchor. Paying list price for a retiring set is already a good deal. You don't need to wait for a sale.
- Don't panic-buy from resellers in December. If a set sells out at one store, check others. It often turns up again before the retirement date.
- Check the age on the box. LEGO prints a suggested age on every set. Sets marked 18+ are made for adults.
- Buy early for Christmas. Shipping gets slow and shelves get picked over in the last two weeks before the holiday.
