Nintendo Switch 2 for Christmas 2026: Bundles and Stock

We check every price and date against the store or maker. Some links are affiliate links: if you buy, we may earn a commission at no cost to you.

If you are shopping for a Nintendo Switch 2 this Christmas, the short version is this: we found no shortage reports for the standard console or the two main bundles (Mario Kart World and Switch Sports Resort), while the Zelda 40th Anniversary edition is the scarce one. This guide covers the Switch 2 bundle options for Christmas 2026, what each costs, what we could and could not confirm about stock, and where to look in New Jersey. It is part of our 2026 holiday gift guide.

Nintendo Switch 2 console and the Mario Kart World and Sports Resort bundles on a holiday background
The standard console and two bundles are the main Switch 2 choices this Christmas.

Which Switch 2 should you buy?

Most families have three real choices: the standard console, one of two game bundles, or the Zelda 40th Anniversary edition. The right answer depends on what your child already has and what you want to find under the tree on Christmas morning. If you only remember one thing, remember this: a bundle costs a little more than the console alone, but Nintendo says it costs less than buying the same pieces separately.

Here is how the options compare, using Nintendo's own prices where they are published.

ModelUS priceWhat is includedHow hard to find
Nintendo Switch 2 (standard)$499.99The console. No game is included. We found no report of a shortage of the standard console. That is not a promise of stock at any one store.
Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle$549.99Console, a full download of Mario Kart World, and a 3-month (90-day) Nintendo Switch Online individual membership. We found no shortage reports. Nintendo says "while supplies last."
Switch 2 + Switch Sports Resort bundle$529.99Console, a full download of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and a 3-month (90-day) Nintendo Switch Online individual membership. On sale Oct. 22, 2026, the same day the game launches. Too new for us to say.
Zelda 40th Anniversary edition$519.99 (reported)A special-design console, a matching Pro Controller and a carrying case. The game is not included.Hard. Sold out at most retailers in mid-October.

A few notes on that table. The Mario Kart World and Sports Resort bundles come with the game as a full download, not a cartridge. That means there is no disc or card to wrap, and the game lives on the console. If you like a physical box to hand over, plan to wrap the console box itself and add a printed note.

The Nintendo Switch Online membership in each bundle is a 3-month (90-day) trial of the individual plan. Nintendo's fine print says it renews automatically at the then-current price unless you cancel. If you do not want a recurring charge, set a reminder for the end of the 90 days.

The Mario Kart World bundle

This is the most straightforward gift for a child who wants to race with family and friends. Nintendo lists it at $549.99 and says that is a savings of $37.98 compared with buying the system, the game and the membership separately. Nintendo says the bundle started in late September. You can read more on our Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle page, where we track where it turns up in New Jersey.

The Switch Sports Resort bundle

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is a motion-control sports game that launches Oct. 22, 2026 and, per Nintendo, comes out exclusively on Switch 2. The game has 12 sports, including Bowling, Archery, Boxing, Prop Plane, Power Cruising, Jump Rope and Thumb Wrestling, set on Wuhu Island. Players can customize a Sportsmate or Mii character.

The bundle goes on sale the same day, at $529.99, with Nintendo listing a savings of $27.98. That makes it the cheapest of the bundles, and a reasonable pick for a family that wants something active that grandparents can join too. See the Switch 2 + Switch Sports Resort bundle page for local sightings once it launches.

One safety note from Nintendo's own page: with motion games, be aware of your surroundings, wear the wrist straps, and leave enough room around you. In a small living room with a Christmas tree in the corner, that is worth a quick look before the first game.

The standard console

If your child has a game in mind, the standard Nintendo Switch 2 at $499.99 is the cleanest choice. If you were going to buy Mario Kart World anyway, the bundle is the better value on Nintendo's numbers.

The price and why it went up

The US list price of the Switch 2 rose from $449.99 to $499.99 on Sept. 1, 2026. That is a $50 increase. Nintendo's stated reason was "various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term." That wording is Nintendo's, and the company did not give a more specific cause on that page, so we are not going to guess at one.

Nintendo said pricing for the original Nintendo Switch was unchanged. Nintendo's later bundle announcement repeated that the standard Switch 2 would be $499.99 as of Sept. 1, so that figure is confirmed in two places on Nintendo's own site.

Why does this matter for a Christmas shopper? Because the old $449.99 price is still floating around in older articles, videos and social posts. If a price you see online looks lower than $499.99 for a new, standard console from a normal retailer, double-check the date on the page. If you are also weighing a PlayStation, our PS5 Pro price and stock post explains why that console is a different story.

Budget for New Jersey's 6.625% sales tax, which applies to consoles under the general rule for most tangible goods (clothing is exempt, consoles are not). On $499.99 that is roughly $33; on the $549.99 bundle, roughly $36. These are estimates.

What is actually in stock

Here is where we have to be careful. We did not find any report of a shortage of the standard Switch 2 or of the Mario Kart World and Sports Resort bundles. We also did not find a report saying they are easy to find everywhere. In other words, the honest answer is "unconfirmed either way." Stock changes by store and by day, and we are not going to claim that any specific store has it right now.

What we can say is that the picture is very different from the PS5 Pro. As of Oct. 18, 2026, Sony's own PlayStation Direct page listed the PS5 Pro as "Currently Unavailable," and reports describe it as hard to find at list price. There is no comparable reporting for the standard Switch 2. If you are choosing between the two consoles for a gift and one has to arrive by December 25, that difference is worth weighing.

A practical plan for the standard console and bundles

  1. Decide your target now. Pick the standard console or one bundle and set a price ceiling at the Nintendo list price. Do not pay above it.
  2. Check the big chains first. Look at Target, Walmart, Best Buy and GameStop online and in person. See the New Jersey section below for our chain pages.
  3. Buy when you see it, if you are sure. If you find the model you want at list price, buying now is usually less stressful than waiting for a possible Black Friday deal that has not been announced. Check the return policy first.

If you would rather not refresh store pages all day, you can track the Switch 2 for free in the RestockPal app. Parents report what is on New Jersey shelves, and the app pings people nearby. It does not guarantee a find, but it can save you some driving.

Special editions and how to get one

The special edition this season is the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2. It features Triforce design motifs and comes with a matching Pro Controller and a carrying case. The console does not include a game, so the Ocarina of Time remake is a separate purchase.

What we know about release, price and stock

How to give yourself the best shot

Be realistic first: this is a collector-style item and will be hard to get at list price. For a young child who mostly wants to play, the regular console may suit just as well.

If you do want the Zelda edition, here are the steps that make sense:

  1. Know the date. Treat Oct. 29 as the release and Nov. 5 as the day the game launches.
  2. Check which Best Buy stores are doing midnight openings. Best Buy said select stores, not all. Look at your nearest locations on our Best Buy page for New Jersey, then call or check the store's site.
  3. Have a backup. A standard Switch 2 or a bundle, plus a note saying the special edition is on the way, is a perfectly good Christmas morning.

We could not confirm a Pokémon Switch 2 bundle for this holiday. Nintendo's Europe and UK page (Sept. 16, 2026) lists three holiday bundles and none is Pokémon. If you see one advertised, check it against a retailer's or Nintendo's own listing.

Accessories and games that sell out

We did not find reliable reports of specific Switch 2 accessories or games selling out beyond the Zelda items above, so we are not going to name any as shortages. What we can offer is a way to think about it.

The Pro Controller that matches the Zelda edition is one of the few accessories we know is limited, because Best Buy specifically said it would have limited quantities of it at the Nov. 5 launches. Anything tied to a special edition, a launch day or a licensed design is where limited stock tends to show up. A plain extra controller or a carrying case is usually less of a chase.

If the gift is for more than one player, price in a second controller, since Nintendo notes extra accessories may be needed for same-room multiplayer. The bundles include 90 days of Nintendo Switch Online, and the games in both bundles are downloads, so check the console's storage before planning a big digital library. We did not look up accessory prices, so check the retailer's page. Our rule: buy the console and game first, and treat extras as stocking stuffers.

Switch 2 or the original Switch for younger kids?

This is a question many parents and grandparents ask, so here is general advice, not a product claim. The original Switch is still sold, and Nintendo said its pricing did not change. If your child is under about eight and mostly plays simple games, the older system may be plenty. If the family wants the newest games, or the child has asked for a specific Switch 2 title, the Switch 2 is the one to buy.

Some questions to ask before you decide:

Whichever you choose, Nintendo says the Switch 2 has parental controls for managing what content children can access. Set them up before Christmas morning.

Where to look in New Jersey

You do not need a special store to find a Switch 2. The big chains all carry consoles, and we have a page for each chain that lists New Jersey locations and what has been spotted there. Here are the four we would start with:

You can also browse every store we cover on the all New Jersey stores page, or see what other items are trending on the hot right now list. The video game consoles category lists the consoles we track together.

Black Friday expectations

Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 26, Black Friday is Nov. 27 and Cyber Monday is Nov. 30. As of mid-October, Amazon, Walmart, Target and Best Buy had not announced their own Black Friday 2026 dates. We found no official retailer announcement and no confirmed Switch 2 deal, so anything you read promising a specific discount is a guess.

Retailers held fall sales earlier this month, including Target Circle Deal Days on Oct. 6 and 7. We did not verify any Switch 2 discounts in them, and whether one appears on Black Friday is something no one can tell you yet.

So how should you plan? A few thoughts:

Is the Switch 2 hard to find this Christmas?

Should I buy the Switch 2 or the original Switch for a younger child?

It depends on the games your child wants and your budget. The original Switch is still sold at an unchanged price, while games such as Nintendo Switch Sports Resort are exclusive to Switch 2. Check that the games on the wish list run on the console you choose.

That is the full picture as of Oct. 18, and we will keep it current as bundle and stock news changes. For more gift ideas, head back to the 2026 holiday gift guide, and if you want a heads-up when an item shows up nearby, you can track items free in the RestockPal app.
