Pokémon Cards for Christmas 2026: What to Buy
We check every price and date against the store or maker. Some links are affiliate links: if you buy, we may earn a commission at no cost to you.
If you are shopping for Pokémon cards for Christmas 2026 and have never opened a pack, start with an Elite Trainer Box for a kid who plays, and a few booster bundles or a tin for a kid who just likes collecting. The box that is hard to buy right now is the 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box, and the newest set, Mega Evolution Delta Reign, arrives November 6. This guide explains what each product is in plain words, what comes out between now and December, and how to avoid paying a reseller's price. It is one chapter of our 2026 holiday gift guide.

Does your kid play or collect?
This is the one question that decides almost everything. The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is a real two-player card game, with rules, decks and tournaments. But many kids never play it. They love the pictures, open packs for the thrill, and keep their favorites in a binder.
A child who plays needs a ready-to-use deck and a stack of cards to build with. A child who collects wants packs to open and a nice place to keep what they pull. Those are different gifts, and mixing them up is how people end up with a box that sits on a shelf.
If you are not sure, look at what they do with the cards they already have. Cards shuffled in a pile and argued about at the lunch table point to playing. Cards sorted by character, kept in sleeves or a binder, and shown off to you point to collecting. If you have no clue at all, ask another parent or the child's friend. A quick text beats guessing.
One more point for grandparents. Pokémon turned 30 this year, and the company is calling the current promotion the 30th Celebration. If your grandchild talks about "the 30th set," that is what they mean. It is popular, so it is also the hardest one to buy at the normal price. We will come back to that.
The products, explained plainly
Pokémon cards are sold in a handful of package types. Here is what each one is, who it suits, and what to watch for. We are not quoting prices in this section because they change by set and by store. The next sections cover the numbers we could confirm.
Booster packs and booster bundles
A booster pack is a small foil pack of random cards. Opening one is the whole appeal: you never know what is inside. A booster bundle is simply several packs sold together, so it is the simplest gift for a kid who likes opening things.
There is no way to know which cards are inside, and the rare ones are a matter of luck. That is part of the fun, but it is worth telling a young child that most packs will not have a "big" card. A bundle gives them more chances to be happy.
Elite Trainer Box (ETB)
The Elite Trainer Box is the one most parents hear about. It is a sturdy box that holds a set of booster packs, a few special promo cards, card sleeves, dice and damage counters, and a place to store a deck. It works for both kinds of kids: players get the accessories, and collectors get the packs and a tidy case.
The number of packs differs by version. The regular 30th Celebration box has nine booster packs, according to Mashable, while Pokémon Center's own page lists 11 boosters plus two foil promo cards for its version. Check the label rather than assuming. The ETB is also the item that most often gets marked up by resellers, so it is where you most need to watch the price.
Collection boxes
Collection boxes bundle packs with an oversized card, a pin, or a promo. They are gift-shaped, so they wrap and look great, but the contents vary a lot. Read the back of the box. The largest ones, such as the Ultra-Premium Collections, hold 29 booster packs and cost far more than a normal gift budget.
Tins
A tin is a metal case with a few packs and a promo card. Tins suit a stocking or a small gift because they look special and the case is reusable for storing cards afterward. The 30th Celebration Mini Tin, which came out October 2, is the small-scale version.
Build & Battle Box and Battle Decks
These are for kids who play. A Build & Battle Box has four booster packs and a 40-card ready-to-play deck built from key cards of a current set, according to the Pokémon site's prerelease page. A Battle Deck is a ready-made deck for two players that works right out of the box, which is a solid choice if you want your child to actually play against a friend or a parent. If you are buying for a beginner, this is usually the gift that gets used the most.

A quick comparison
| Product | Best for | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Booster bundle | A collector who loves opening packs | Several random packs in one wrapper |
| Elite Trainer Box | Either kind of kid; the safest all-round gift | Packs, promo cards, sleeves, dice, storage box |
| Collection box | A gift that looks impressive | Packs plus an oversized card, pin or promo (varies) |
| Tin | A stocking or small gift | A few packs, a promo card, a reusable case |
| Build & Battle Box or Battle Deck | A kid who plays, or a beginner | A ready-to-play deck, sometimes with packs |
What is coming out October to December
Pokémon's own October release page, posted October 1, lists six products. We found no prices on that page, so we only give dates here.
- October 2: Mini Portfolio, Enhanced 2-Pack Blister, 30th Celebration Mini Tin, and 30th Celebration Booster Bundle. These are already out.
- October 23: Deck Crafter's Collection, a 40-card box with a foil Meowth ex and a booster pack (this detail comes from a release calendar, not Pokémon's own page).
- October 30: 30th Celebration Battle Deck with Espeon ex and Umbreon ex, a good one for a kid who plays.

November and December
The big release for the holidays is Mega Evolution: Delta Reign, which goes on sale November 6, with Mega Rayquaza ex as its headliner. Prerelease events start at participating stores on October 24. A prerelease is a small organized play day where players open new cards before the official launch. Ask the shop before you go, since each store runs its own event.
We have two Delta Reign Elite Trainer Boxes in our catalog: the Pokémon Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box at a list price of $49.99, and the Pokémon Center Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box at $59.99. Best Buy's own listing shows the standard box at $49.99 with a November 6 release date.
A release calendar that cites an industry news site reports these later products, which we label as reported rather than confirmed by Pokémon:
- November 6: 30th Celebration Ultra-Premium Collections (Espeon ex Day and Umbreon ex Night), listed at $179.99 each with 29 booster packs.
- November 11: League Battle Deck Mega Greninja ex at $29.99.
- December 4: a 30th Celebration Binder Collection at $31.99, and ex Tins (Sylveon ex or Greninja ex) at $21.99. The binder's date is disputed between sources, and the December tins are reported but not confirmed by Pokémon.
Our catalog also includes Pitch Black Elite Trainer Boxes, a standard version and a Pokémon Center version with a list price of $59.99. We have no release date for those, so check the box before you buy to be sure it is the set your child wants.

Prices: what is MSRP and what is a markup
MSRP means the manufacturer's suggested retail price, the normal price a store is supposed to charge. For Pokémon cards the gap between MSRP and what sellers actually ask can be huge, so it helps to know the real number before you click Buy.
Here is where the sources do not agree, and we would rather tell you than pick one:
- The 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box shows $89.99 on Amazon's 2026 toy list, as an invitation-only offer.
- A tracking site lists it at $69.99 at Target, and Polygon reported $69.99 for Walmart's drawing.
- Pokémon Center's own product page lists its version of the box at $59.99.
- Walmart's marketplace listing shows $159.95, which looks like a third-party seller, not Walmart itself.
We cannot give you one clean MSRP for the 30th Celebration box, and it may differ by retailer and by version. What we can say is that anything above roughly $90 is not a normal price, and the $150 range is a reseller's price. Mashable's guide reported a lowest TCGplayer listing of $150 plus shipping, and Walmart at $159.95.
Delta Reign is already showing the same pattern before launch. Best Buy lists the box at $49.99. On October 16, Mashable reported pre-orders at $137.89 on Amazon and $113.99 at Walmart. Those pre-order prices are not the real price. They are people betting that you will panic.
Prices also rise generally. A Reuters report from October 15 found toy prices up 6.6% over the past year, partly due to tariffs. That is not a reason to pay a reseller. It is a reason not to be surprised when a normal shelf price is a few dollars higher than last year.
The rule of thumb
Before you pay, check the price on the retailer's own page and compare it against the list prices in this guide. If a listing is more than about 30 percent over, wait. Next month's restock or the next set almost always costs less than a marked-up box. We cover the same idea in more detail in how to beat resellers to hot toys.
Pokémon Center, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop
Each store handles Pokémon differently. None of these are guarantees, since stock changes daily.
Pokémon Center
This is the official Pokémon online store. It sells its own version of the Elite Trainer Box, with extra packs and foil promos, at a list price of $59.99 in our catalog for the Delta Reign and Pitch Black versions. When we checked on October 18, the 30th Celebration Pokémon Center box page listed it at $59.99 and showed it as unavailable. We could not confirm its queue or limit rules, so check the site's current notes before you plan around it.
Target
Target is the most talked-about store for Pokémon restocks. A tracker site reports online restocks overnight around 3 AM Eastern, plus weekday deliveries to stores. Treat that as a pattern people report, not a schedule Target publishes. Target also lists the Pokémon Pikachu Puppetronic and a Pokémon Toniebox starter set on its 2026 top toys list, if you want a non-card gift. See Target stores in New Jersey.
Walmart
Walmart runs a weekly drawing for its Pokémon products, per SheKnows. It happens on Wednesdays, with a window of about one hour (the September 30 edition ran at 5 PM Eastern). You enter with your shipping and payment info, you are not charged until you are picked, and winners are random. That week's items were a 30th Celebration Mini Tin 10-count display at $130, a Booster Bundle 2-pack at $80, and a Knock Out Collection 4-pack at $48. Not everyone is chosen. Check the current week's rules on Walmart's site, since the lineup changes. Walmart's marketplace also hosts third-party sellers, so look at who is selling. See Walmart stores in New Jersey.
Best Buy
Best Buy has the Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box listed at $49.99 for November 6. It is worth a look for pre-orders, since a pre-order at list price beats any scramble on release day. See Best Buy stores in New Jersey.
GameStop
GameStop sells Pokémon cards too. Engadget reported in July that GameStop was marking up Pokémon cards by more than 300 percent, so compare before you buy there, and treat a very high shelf tag as a reason to look elsewhere. See GameStop stores in New Jersey.
Amazon
Amazon's 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box at $89.99 was invitation only, meaning you request an invite and wait. For other Pokémon items, check that the seller is Amazon itself and not a third party.

Purchase limits and why shelves empty fast
Stores often cap how many Pokémon boxes one person can buy. The caps are there because hobby demand is high and a few buyers can otherwise clear a shelf. We could not confirm each store's exact limit this month, and they change, so look at the product page or ask at the register.
The reason shelves empty so fast is simple math. Many people want the same few boxes, restocks come in small batches, and some buyers are buying to resell. When a store gets six boxes on a Tuesday morning, they are gone in minutes. Walmart's drawings and Amazon's invitations are ways of spreading a small supply around instead of rewarding whoever refreshes fastest.
What this means for you:
- Easy items exist. Booster bundles, tins and Battle Decks are generally less scarce than the 30th Celebration ETB. Aim for those first.
- Buy early in the season. A box you find in October at list price is one less thing to chase in December.
- Do not queue at 5 AM for a box that is a "nice to have." Save your effort for the one item your child really asked for.
Our post on the hardest-to-find toys for Christmas 2026 puts the Pokémon 30th Celebration boxes alongside the other tough items, so you can decide where to spend your energy. RestockPal can also ping you when a nearby shopper reports a find, which saves some of the checking. See how alerts work.
Fakes and resealed packs
When a product is scarce and expensive, scams follow. This advice is general, and it applies any time you buy cards.
- Buy sealed from a known seller. A store, the official Pokémon Center, or a seller with a long history and high ratings.
- Look at the shrink wrap. A factory wrap has clean, tight seams. Loose, wavy, glued or crooked wrap is a warning. Resealed boxes can have had the packs swapped for weaker ones.
- Be suspicious of a too-good price. A sealed Elite Trainer Box well below the list price is more likely a scam than a bargain.
- Avoid loose "mystery" lots from anonymous sellers, especially cards that are advertised as rare.
- Pay in a way that protects you. Use a credit card or a platform with buyer protection, and keep screenshots of the listing.
- Be careful with unsealed gifts. If a child gets a pack that feels flat or a card with blurry printing, a thin or glossy-wrong back, or a weird smell, it may be fake.
If you see a suspicious item at a store, tell the staff. It is also fine to return a box if the seal looks wrong. Do not feel bad about it.
Where to look in New Jersey
New Jersey has plenty of the chains that carry Pokémon cards. Pages for each are linked below, and the real answer for any given afternoon is to check before you drive.
| Store | What to know |
|---|---|
| Target | Most talked-about for restocks. Online overnight drops and weekday store deliveries are reported by a tracker. |
| Walmart | Weekly Wednesday drawing online. Watch for third-party marketplace sellers. |
| GameStop | Sells cards; compare prices because of reported markups. |
| Best Buy | Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box listed at $49.99 for November 6. |
| Barnes & Noble | Worth a look for tins and smaller items; check the store before going. |
A few New Jersey notes. In Bergen County, many stores close on Sundays under local blue laws, so a Sunday trip there may be wasted. New Jersey charges 6.625 percent sales tax on most tangible goods unless the law exempts them, according to the NJ Division of Taxation, so a $50 box costs about $53.31 at the register. Clothing is exempt, but toys and cards are not, so they are taxed.
The most useful habit is to ask a store employee when the next delivery is. They often know. On RestockPal, parents report what is on shelves in your area, and you can browse every Pokémon item in our Pokémon cards category.
Not a card gift? The Pikachu Puppetronic, an interactive plush, is on both Target's and Amazon's 2026 lists, and it is a nice pick for a younger Pokémon fan who is not ready for cards.
FAQ
What should I buy a kid who has never played Pokémon cards?
A Battle Deck or a Build & Battle Box, because both come with a deck that is ready to play. If they only like collecting, an Elite Trainer Box or a booster bundle is simpler. The 30th Celebration Battle Deck with Espeon ex and Umbreon ex comes out October 30.
What is an Elite Trainer Box?
It is a sturdy box with booster packs, promo cards, card sleeves, dice, damage counters and storage. It suits both players and collectors. The number of packs varies by version, so read the label.
When does the new Pokémon set come out?
Mega Evolution: Delta Reign goes on sale November 6, 2026, with prerelease events at participating stores starting October 24. Best Buy lists the Elite Trainer Box at $49.99.
How much should a Pokémon Elite Trainer Box cost?
Sources disagree for the 30th Celebration box: Pokémon Center lists its version at $59.99, a tracker shows $69.99 at Target, Polygon reported $69.99 for Walmart's drawing, and Amazon showed $89.99 by invitation. Our catalog lists the Delta Reign box at $49.99, or $59.99 from Pokémon Center. Prices near $150 are reseller prices.
Does Walmart really run a Pokémon drawing?
Yes. SheKnows reported a weekly Wednesday drawing with an entry window of about one hour. You enter with shipping and payment details, and winners are chosen at random. Check Walmart's site for the current week's items.
How can I tell if a Pokémon box is fake or resealed?
Look at the shrink wrap for loose, wavy, glued or crooked seams, and be wary of prices far below list. Buy from a store, Pokémon Center or a well-rated seller, and pay with buyer protection.
Is there a limit on how many I can buy?
Many stores set limits, but we could not confirm each store's current rules. Check the product page or ask at the register.
Where can I find Pokémon cards in New Jersey?
Target, Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop and Barnes & Noble all have New Jersey pages on RestockPal. Call or check first, and remember many Bergen County stores close on Sundays.
